TАЙГА/TAIGA
THE HOME LAND OF THE AMUR TIGERS
The Southern coastal region of the Russian Far East, a mixture of coniferous and broadleaf forest, the taiga (TАЙГА / TAIGA quiet woods in Russian) in the form of a virgin, untouched forest exists with a rich ecosystem that peaks with Amur Tiger (the endangered species) . In addition taiga is the natural wildlife habitat of local minorities Udehe and Nanai, the guardians of the forest, engaged in a life based on hunting and fishing.
Taiga is a treasure trove of biodiversity, located right next to Japan, across the Sea of Japan (approximately 2.5 hours from Narita Airport to Khabarovsk), from around the late 20th century, high demand for wood in Japan were supported by the imported timber from this area. The Sikhote-Alin mountains supports the flow of the Bikin River and the area repeatedly were threatened to encourage the timber exports to the neighboring countries, such as China and Japan, but with the strong desire to protect the land and life of the local minorities, have saved what is left of Taiga untouched.
The protection of the taiga and the creatures of the taiga mean the protection of the rich water that flows into the Sea of Japan. Especially for us in Japan, our lives are supported by the richness of the sea. We enjoy the influence and blessing from the Sea of Japan. Also, as a neighbor and as a member of the world, it means a great deal for our future to provide continuous support and protection.
